Hemiurids are the group of digeneans which usually occur in the mucosa of stomach of marine teleosts. The genus Lecithochirium was erected by Luhe (1901) which is a large genotype and is the most frequently encountered hemiurid in fishes of east coast. They are usually parasitic in the gut of the marine teleosts. The taxonomic history of hemiurid digeneans has been reviewed by Gibson and Bray (1979). More than 100 species have been described in this genus. Bray (1990) synonymized a number of these species. These worms are generally more morphologically complex than the hemiurids treated earlier. The ecological, physiological and environmental factors of these hosts and adaptations of parasites might have led to morphological variations of flukes.

The genus Saurida is commonly known as lizard fish. These fishes are abundant throughout the lndian coast, and are very popular as food fishes. At this coast, the catches of trawlers consist of a variety of fish, among which Saurida is regularly represented. They are known for their delicacy as food fish, have good quality of proteins and are widely dispersed in the world. Saurida forms one of the important commercial fishes of India. Fishing is the main occupation for people in the lowest strata of the society. Recognizing the importance of fish as source of nutritional proteins and also potential source of foreign exchange, the government of India gave priority to the improvement of fishing and fish processing. As a result, today, marine products have become a major foreign exchange in the country's economy. These fishes are usually marketed fresh, dried and salted. Six trematodes were collected from the mucosa of stomach of S. tumbil. They were fixed in FAA solution (formalin, acetic acid and ethyl alcohol) and stained with alum carmine. They were mounted in canadabalsum following the routine dehydration techniques. Drawings were made with the help of Camera lucida. All the measurements were given in millimeters.
