Gone are the days when people used to send an e- mail and wait for a reply, nowadays they can interact online as well as see each other online. People can write their own views on blogs and can read and comment on other's views too. The data transfer is also very fast, including sharing of videos and photos, etc. Web 2.0 is all about the new age of interactive websites. This is the era of Social Networking Sites (SNS) on which people chitchat, share photos and videos too. This is creating an impact on the organization as most of the employees are surfing on SNS during their working hours. This article presents the meaning of Web 2.0, its tools and impact on Human Resource Management. It will provide the measures HR managers should take for effective utilization of Web 2.0.

Web 1.0 is retronym for the state of World Wide Web (WWW) wherein web pages were not interactive, but static and non-interactive. It was just sending an e-mail and replying. The evolution happened post 2003—the Era of Web 2.0.

The transition of Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 is experienced due to rapid speed of the information technology. Web 2.0 is the interactive version of web-based communities and social networking websites like Facebook, Orkut, LinkedIn, etc. It also included video sharing, wikis, blogs, mashups, etc. The second generation of web is commonly referred as Web 2.0. The term `Web 2.0' is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web.
