Nowadays, new health problems such as musculoskeletal disorders and repetitive strain injury are cropping up. These injuries are usually caused due to bad office ergonomics, This article highlights the importance of ergonomics and proper workplace arrangements such as arrangement of tables, chairs, computers, keyboards, mouse, etc.

 
 
 

Apart from strikes, lock-outs and stoppage, another major factor for man-hour loss all over world is absenteeism. One of the major reasons for increasing worker absenteeism rate is occupational health-related problems.

Every year, a number of workers get injured or lose their lives because of accidents at the workplace. According to statistics provided by International Labor Organization (ILO), more than 125 million workers worldwide are victims of occupational accidents and diseases in each year. Of them 2,20,000 workers die and about 10 million are seriously disabled. These statistics can make one understand the importance of safety and health of employees at workplace. Although a number of legislations have been passed, they do not lessen the responsibility of corporate world in this regard. Corporates should take all necessary measures to have a safe and healthy workplace.

Some important causes of safety and health-related problems at workplace are lack of training and education, carelessness of employees or human error, technical errors, stress, occupational hazards and risks. After identifying the reasons for accidents, organizations should make some provisions to prevent accidents in the workplace. A thorough research for finding out different causes of accidents and occupational diseases and effective implementation of safety and health programs are highly essential.
