The journey of reality shows first began in the UK in 1964 with
the grand television series `Seven Up'. Reality shows further created
a revolution and became a massive hit with success of `Survivor'
and `American Idol'. Following these, reality shows became popular,
not only in the US and UK, but also in India. Reality TV gained
immense popularity and success in the 1990s in India. These shows are
present in a wide variety of forms.
The trend of promoting movies through reality shows is
gaining momentum today. The Indian film industry has been facing
challenges due to recession, piracy and changing preferences of
viewers. Reality shows provide a cost-effective and efficient platform
to promote the movies and reach a wide audience. In fact, it has
become a necessity today to advertise and promote movies on the
