As the wave of globalization sweeps across organizations, there is a convergence of workforce from diverse countries, cultures, values, styles, etc. Such convergence of distinctly different people presents tremendous opportunities as well as challenges to the HR people. Organizations can derive unassailable lead in the marketplace when they have in place effective Human Resource Management practices and diversity initiative that accepts differences, values equality and creates preferred places to work. The article explains the importance of diversity, ways of managing it and challenges therein.

I'm convinced diversity is a key to success. Experience tells us that the most diverse companies—companies ruled by a hierarchy of imagination and filled with people of all ages, races, and backgrounds—are the most successful over time. The announcement of Dadwal as the police commissioner of Delhi sparkled a debate as it ignored Kiran Bedi widely known as an officer of courage, persistence, and perseverance. Sona Shah, filed a lawsuit against software and services firm, ADP Wilco, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Automatic Data Processing Inc., after she was displaced by a H1-B foreign worker.

She sued ADP Wilco for discriminating against its employees based on their citizenship and immigration status. These instances apparently mirror unacceptable form of discrimination prevailing in non-progressive workplaces which inhibit diversity due to the long held prejudices and traditions, etc.Globalization has changed the social and cultural fabric of the organizations by presenting them with new sources of labor which demands them to create workplace that respects equality, values differences and ensure fairness.

Fierce wave of globalization that is sweeping the world with dazzling speed resulting in phenomenal increase in diverse workforce as regards gender, race, traditions, age, and physical ability, etc. As human capital becomes key and scarce asset in this borderless world, irrespective of the nature of organizations be it IT or non IT, manufacturing or service employee diversity due to complex beliefs and behavior patterns presents a serious problem and challenge to the human resource management.
