The present study is an attempt to investigate and identify the factors which affect the work sphere and personal life of women working in call centers. The various health, family and work-related problems and other variables that are encountered by women in call centers are studied.

Women in India take up an occupation more out of economic necessity—to support the family or support themselves. Some of the other factors propelling the growth of professional careers are: better education and changing sociocultural values. Women, apart from managing their career, must also manage home, children and other responsibilities, though they are inherently blessed with multi-tasking skills.

Stress impacts lives in the modern competitive world. With the dwindling support system where the Hindu undivided families have made way to nuclear families, the juggling between personal and professional life has become indispensable, even though it is often aided by paid help in the form of live-in-maid and crèches. With the breaking up of emotional support and family structure, the extra organizational stressors have magnified and balancing work life has become a Herculean task for women. Call centers with their 24/7 work culture and working against the biological clock have their own set of stressors.
