Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG)’s role is to increase the level of awareness of the benefits of implementing and adhering to the code of corporate governance. It also encourages business schools to place corporate governance in their curricula to develop an understanding of the code, principles and benefits by future business leaders. This paper presents the views of PICG towards the prevailing corporate governance issues in Pakistan.

 
 
 

Introduction
This paper aims to highlight the views of Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG) towards the prevailing corporate governance issues in Pakistan. PICG’s role is to increase the level of awareness regarding the benefits of implementing and adhering to a code of corporate governance.

Methodology

This paper is based on an interview (held on October 23, 2011) with Fuad Azim Hashimi, President, Pakistan Institute for Corporate Governance. Besides having 40 years of experience in public accounting and diversified business and commercial ventures in banking, sales and marketing, information technology and general management, he has in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in devising and implementing the code of corporate governance in Pakistan. From the corporate governance perspective, he has served as a non-executive director on the Boards of Crescent Commercial Bank Ltd., Clariant Pakistan Ltd., National Refinery Ltd., and Pakistan Cables Ltd., and is currently on the Boards of International Industries Ltd. and Pakistan Security Printing Corporation Ltd., where he is additionally on their respective audit committees. The findings, based on interview with such an authority on corporate governance in Pakistan, provide both reliability and validity for the research in hand.
