Mobile device not only helps in communication and entertainment but also can be used for learning. The paper proposes a Mobile Learning and Evaluation System (MLES) which enables the teaching and evaluation process possible on the move. A user can learn the concepts of a specific subject and can also evaluate the learning of the subject using mobile device. Test includes the objective questions in the same pattern present in different examinations. MLES consists of three modules. The first module is for ‘learning’ the subject, the second module is for evaluation or test, and the third module is for checking the performance graphically in the form of bar chart. The paper presents the evolution of the idea for developing the MLES and MLES implementation. This MLES can be extended for use in learning different domains of engineering. MLES helps the students in preparing for examinations. A student self-learns and evaluates on the move without the help of teacher or any study material. MLES is tested with self-learning and test on students of digital design course. Students evaluate the acquired knowledge afterwards by attempting an objective type test.

Mobile applications are being developed each day (Georgiev et al., 2004; and Mileva and Stoyanova, 2009). Mobile-based learning has been implemented for Mathematics (Pollara and Kee, 2011). Graesser et al. (2005) proposed an auto tutor system. Hoic-Bozic et al. (2009) proposed a learning approach which includes learning and discussion. Pears and Rogalli (2011) proposed a learning system based on prior education and computing education research results. Nikolic et al. (2015) proposed a process to train and manage teaching assistants.

Students seek to learn and test using new tools. Figure 1 shows an overview of Mobile Learning and Evaluation System (MLES).
