Outsourcing to India means substantial cost and time saving compared to the rest of the world. India has people with excellent project management skills and in-depth experience in state-of-the-art software and IT-enabled services. These crucial elements are contributing to the success of outsourcing in India, says Ashish Chand, President, Call Center Association, India.

Today, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is undergoing a sea change. As new markets emerge for undertaking business services outside of the enterprise, BPO is undergoing a shift from traditional optimization services to services that involve a great deal of rethinking and reengineering. BPO service providers need to be aware of this shift and be prepared for new delivery models and greater flexibility. Users of these services will have the ability to access business services as they access utilities. Flexibility and adaptability are the cornerstones required to face the new demand and competition in the worldwide BPO market.

The growth of BPO is the result of a combination of factors. These principal growth drivers can be summarized as below:

Economic trends: The increase in importance of a number of long-term economic trends has made it clear to companies that they need to focus on their core competencies and leave the other non-core, but important processes to outside specialists. These trends are aspects like globalization, industry consolidation, increasing competition, speed to market, shortage of skilled labor, and the increasing importance of back-office operations. These factors have contributed towards building an environment where BPO has almost become a necessity.
