The pace of technological development and concomitant introduction of new technologies into educational settings have dramatically accelerated during the past decade through the combination of computation, connectivity, visual and multimedia capacities. Miniaturization and speed have radically changed the potential for technologies in education. These developments are now making it possible for education to go online in India. This paper reviews the different benefits of using technology in imparting education and how this has led to the evolution of online education. Will education serve its purpose when served online or will it end up as another diploma mill ?
Management institutes and educators have attempted an increased incorporation of collaborative group work, problem-solving and decision-making through technology as an integral component of pedagogy. There is no doubt that technology-based tools can enhance students' cognitive performance and achievements if used appropriately, in accordance with knowledge learning and as part of a coherent educational approach. While we are in the business of training managers, not technocrats, we are aware that technology becomes important all the time and that it has the potential to make the education we provide more powerful, relevant and accessible than we could have imagined possibly even a few years ago.
Management schools are under tremendous pressure to prepare business leaders who can deal with complex and ambiguous problems, consider the full context of a problem or situation quickly and accurately, and use both qualitative and quantitative information and analyses to inform their decisions. The very technologies that have created a global business environment now enable business schools to prepare students to function in this fast-moving, highly-competitive, interdependent, global economy. The convergence of state-of-the-art computing and communication technologies is making possible the transformation of MBA education and the modeling of new technologies for the professional practice of management.
