The 21st century is a century
of change. We are living in
a fast changing world where global, cultural and
societal changes have become pervasive in all
aspects of our lives. In the current era of complex social,
technological, economic and political changes, it
is imperative that organizations adapt themselves and change, only
then they will be able to keep pace with the changing competitive
scenario. Changes in the environment in which organizations
operate, transform and influence the way organizations work. If
organization's want to prosper, succeed and be influential in today's world
they need to change and adapt themselves to the new challenges.
This reality came knocking on the doors of the Indian
industry with the opening up of the Indian economy in 1991. The
Indian industry which had been protected till now suddenly had to face
the realities of domestic as well as global competition.
In such a scenario, the field of organizational development
helped many companies to face the changes. "Organizational development is
a response to change, a complex educational strategy intended
to change the beliefs, attitudes, values, and structure of organizations so
that they can better adapt to new technologies, markets
and challenges and the dizzying rate of change
itself" ( Benis,1969). The focus of organizational
development efforts is to increase efficiency of
the organizations helping them to function better and effectively. |
