A presentation is like a poster
it has to communicate one clear bold message and
it has to do it the first time itself. Presentation, the word is so terrifying for speakers
who are new to public speaking. Sweaty hands, trembling body, distorted
words, perspiration tickling spine, unsteady hand and leg movements, not only for the
speakers who are new to public speaking but the very idea of speaking before an audience,
makes the total situation unnerving for the speaker. It is alike for people new to public
speaking irrespective of the language they choose to speak.
For long I have tried to bring a package for learners new to public speaking
and I am trying my level best to do justice to it.
Some of the measures that can be adopted to make oneself prepared are: One
has to prepare oneself pretty ahead of the scheduled time of arrival of the audience.
Holding a pen, pointer or even marker can control nervousness. Agile (responsive)
body movements also hide nervousness. But one should be careful that one does not
overdo the movements so that the naturalness of the body language does not look
unnatural. The lighting of the hall, the color balance, even the extent of the arrangement of
chairs; all require adequate attention. |
