Knowledge workers of the digital age are expected to perform effectively in virtual teams. They need to be innovative and flexible. Author and Consultant Bray J Brockbank identifies the process to develop a high-performing workforce in this knowledge-based economy. Organizations seeking to establish a highly effective workforce must develop a high-performance workforce, but research suggests that most organizations consistently fail to provide the essential tools, technologies, and programs necessary to enable employees to work at their best.
In the knowledge economy, employees should not be regarded as "costs" but rather revenue creators and that knowledge or people's competence are sources of wealth creation. This paper argues that organizations that invest in and support a centralized e-learning program can improve employee performance, retention, enhance overall business results, improve bottom line measurements, and create a competitive advantage.
