Several Swedish organizations like Saab-Scania and Volvo made successful experiments that were designed to change the work environment and improve employee satisfaction. Volvo committed substantial resources for the cause of improving the work environment at its plants. Professor Noel M Tichy, of Columbia University Graduate Business School has done extensive research in the area of work restructuring, quality of work life (QWL). He has also analyzed the problems of growing employee turnover, absenteeism, drug abuse and alcoholism. He asserts, "Work experiments in Sweden have implications for all industrialized countries." Work in America1 documented the various factors for deviant workplace behavior. The study recommended a comprehensive review of the existing workplace practices and exhorted companies to make intensive efforts to stem through job redesign. The objective is to ensure increased participation of workers to enhance productivity and also preserve human aspects in the workplace.

Sweden has addressed to the workplace problems in a comprehensive manner.
