It
is difficult to imagine a happy populace in an unplanned city.
The need for various civic amenities and other facilities
for public well-being grow exponentially with the growth of
population. Leaking water pipes, overflowing drainage system,
overloaded transport system, narrow roads, frequent traffic
jams and agitating public, are common features of an unplanned
city. Even the planned ones are facing increasing pressures
and pains to handle the ever growing service needs of its
citizens. Amidst the heterogeneity, various infrastructure
components like the railway system of different gauges are
common elements of an unplanned city, which further complicates
the life of the authorities as well as city dwellers. If we
take this analogy in an enterprise scenario, overflowing information,
inadequate reporting, information chaos, network congestion
and system breakdowns, incompatible heterogeneous systems
are common in organizations, which grow in size and don't
have a comprehensive framework or a plan in place. All enterprises
today are facing challenges to execute core business processes
with high performance and efficiency. And they're striving
to continually optimize and adapt those processes to new business
conditions as quickly as they arise. Just like a city requires
a "city plan" to ensure a healthy and prosperous
life for its dwellers, an organization requires a plan or
a framework, called as "Enterprise Architecture",
for health and prosperity of the organization.
Enterprise
Architecture (EA) provides a blueprint of the present capabilities
of the organization, with interrelationships among various
components, like business process, information, infrastructure
and technology frameworks. It also provides a framework of
future applications, desired state of various components and
platforms to support future strategies. The goal of Enterprise
Architecture is to integrate all elements for all the enterprise
services including all the services, throughout the three
layers of business technology, business solution, and business
model, thus enabling users to find these services in their
set of applications and business solutions. |
