This article proposes a framework of personal and professional conflicts experienced by women lecturers. It also highlights the level of stress in work-life balance due to role conflict.

 
 
 

Role conflict is the result of internal and external factors. Dual roles are experienced by women lecturers in life and at work. The level of conflict in dual role increases their stress. Everyone experiences stress in this competitive world. But the optimum level of stress differs from person to person. For example a child, an adolescent, men, women, professionals experience stress at different stages in their life cycle. Advantageous situation for one becomes stressful for another. The immediate solution for the role conflict of women lecturers' can be effectively managed, if planned carefully. The major factors influencing dual roles must be identified and some coping mechanisms have to be adopted to maintain a smooth work-life balance. Level of stress in the dual role affects both personal and professional demand. Needs and wants of the women lecturers can be fulfilled, if the stress in the role conflict is maintained to a minimum level.

Stress is caused due to internal and external factors. These factors mainly influence the lifestyle of women lecturers which affects them both physically and mentally. Women lecturers' experience stress due to the imbalance between professional and personal factors. In this competitive economy no one is free from stress. Role conflict experienced by women lecturers indirectly promotes their problem-solving and decision-making skills. Profession of women lecturers is a challenging task. They have to quench the knowledge thirst of students. Many factors are responsible for causing stress in their life and at work. Women lecturers plan out the ideas to maintain a balance between role conflicts. This article also highlights that role conflict of women lecturers should be effectively and constructively managed for work-life balance. Coping mechanisms have to be adopted by women lecturers to balance the personal and professional conflicts.

Women lecturers experience stress due to dual roles. When the personal demand affects the professional demand they face role conflict. Stress inducers can be classified as personal and professional factors.

Level of stress differs from one person to another. Women lecturers face more stress as they have more responsibility in both ways. They not only face role conflict, but also face high-level of stress. Their mind is in a dilemma deciding which one has to be given priority. This conflict diminishes their importance and role in both personal and professional atmosphere. Therefore professional women lecturers experience a much high-level of stress while comparing the other categories.
