Formed after the merger between MBf Finance and Arab Malaysian Bank, the AmBank Group has grown strong, thanks to the benefits from the business operations of commercial banking and the finance company. It has a varied portfolio of products supported by state of art technolgy for its end-users. It has expanded its operations widely and has set-up branches and ATMs in good number. The bank's financials have been impressive.

AmBank Group is the leading financial services provider in Malaysia, established in 1975 as a joint venture bank between Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad, Arab-Investment for Asia (Kuwait) Ltd., and Malayan Banking Berhad which later acquired MBf Finance during the last fiscal. It has a dominant presence in investment banking and consumer finance markets. It also offers Islamic banking services which is gaining greater acceptance. It has a varied product portfolio ranging from investment banking, commercial and retail banking to offshore banking and it is now prospering on its multi-delivery channels so as to convert the traditional branch network into customer oriented sales centers by centralizing support functions.

AmBank finances manufacturing, households, retail trade, construction and other sectors. The Group sees housing and hire purchase loans as the lead products to further penetrate the retail market segment. While the outstanding Islamic financing accounted for 6.1% of total business, the commercial bank and the merchant bank account for 18.8% and 16.7% respectively of the total business. Hire purchase of motor vehicles and housing accounted for 24.5% and 11.9% during the last fiscal. The group diversified its loan portfolio across various types of customers and industries so as to minimize risk exposures arising from concentration to particular sectors of the economy.
