The paper focuses on Dr B R Ambedkar’s commitment to creating a more just and equitable society, and his tireless efforts to empower the marginalized communities through constitutional and social change. Ambedkar’s vision for democracy was deeply rooted in his commitment to social justice and equality. Modern Indian society has been significantly impacted by Ambedkar’s emphasis on institutional and legal reforms meant to overthrow the caste system through affirmative action and constitutional protection. Ambedkar dedicated his entire life to improving the lives of women, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes in India. Therefore, the establishment of an egalitarian social order founded on human values of justice and social, economic, and political equality as well as equality of status, opportunity, and fraternity while guaranteeing human dignity, is explicitly emphasized in the Constitutional ethos, as articulated in the Preamble to India’s Constitution, besides its Directive Principles and Fundamental Rights. This paper explores the main ideas of Ambedkar’s political and social philosophy.
India’s struggle against social injustice and inequality is based on Dr B R Ambedkar’s ideal of equality and justice for all. As the drafter of the Indian Constitution, Ambedkar promoted social, economic, and political justice, stressing that all Indians, regardless of caste, gender, or economic standing, must be granted equal rights and dignity in a true democracy.
