The paper proposes a design that incorporates ferrocement panel assembly analyzed against building standards, and proven to be effective against thermal stress across the building envelope. Further combining it with the affordable mass housing stereotype construction methods, the design provides superior thermal performance. Finally, a showdown between conventional ways of construction and this ferrocement assembly practically gives rise to an energy-efficient solution. When integrated with existing construction typologies that are widely applied in today’s affordable mass housing projects, it directly cuts down core materials like cement and steel up to a considerable amount. The other byproducts of this study, for example, more resilient structures, and life-cycle benefits, are positive enough to encourage developers toward scalable solutions.
This research journey began with a broad examination of the critical challenges in context of the Indian construction sector.
