Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a cutting-edge technology in academic libraries, revolutionizing user services, collection management, information retrieval, and decisionmaking. This paper provides an overview of AI in academic libraries from a data-driven viewpoint. Based on a bibliometric and trend analysis of related publications from 2010 to 2024, the study outlines the major areas of AI application in libraries, draws attention to adoption challenges, and provides ethical solutions. The findings indicate that AI enhances efficiency, customization, and accessibility of library operations, but there remain challenges like infrastructure gap, AI literacy, and regulation.
A paradigmatic and pervasive change experienced by scholarly libraries in the twenty-first century is information technology, specifically, artificial intelligence (AI).
