To map the intellectual structure and emerging trends in the field of entrepreneurial intention (EI), the study combines systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis to present both quantitative and qualitative insights into this expanding domain. Using a dataset of 2,155 papers extracted from the Scopus database (2000-2025), the study analyzes the most prominent journals, authors, countries, articles and themes. Bibliometric tools such as VOSviewer were employed to visualize co-authorship networks, keyword cooccurrence, and citation impact. Additionally, content analysis was conducted on the most recent four years of publication not covered in the co-citation analysis, to synthesize current knowledge on the antecedents of EI, evaluate the theoretical framework used, and identify the gap for future research, particularly in the context of sustainability and innovation. The findings reveal a significant rise in EI literature after 2010, with thematic clusters forming around the Theory of Planned Behavior, entrepreneurship education, and youth entrepreneurship.
The persistent mismatch between labor force growth and formal job creation, exacerbated by global economic disruptions, has significantly altered employment trajectories for young individuals and intensified the relevance of entrepreneurship as a viable economic response.
