Many organizations have used "Change" as an effective strategy to accomplish several well-defined objectives. Project change management refers to redefining the ongoing procedures and applying change in an appropriate manner. This article is an analysis of the key roles of a project manager for the successful implementation of the change and outlines some significant change management techniques to enable the project to reach the goal.

Change is the only constant thing in life, goes an old adage. And it is applicable to projects as well. It is like a common thread that runs through all types of projects regardless of their size and age. Projects that handle change well, thrive but projects that don't, continuously struggle to survive. A change in the project always requires a great deal of effort and a unique combination of managerial skills, for its success.

The concept of "Change Management" is a familiar one in the modern organizational culture. In other words, project change management is the implementation of the major changes in technology, business processes and job assignments to minimize risks and costs and to optimize the benefits. It also focuses on the issues of managing the resistance and discomfort experienced by the employees in a project with the introduction of newer technology. Change management encompasses planning, governance, testing and successfully implementing a system pursuant to the project change. But the key part depends upon how the project managers cope with the inevitable stream of changes that confront them on day-to-day basis, while attempting to maintain organizational excellence and the way they plan, direct and control the change process
