Description
The image of the political system in countries like India has been extensively tarnished due to the unlimited and uncontrolled role of money in politics.
India as a nation can always take pride in being the largest democracy in the world. The Indian democracy's success can be attributed to the effective functioning of political parties. In fact, the political parties are the major proponents of democracy and they have orchestrated the spread of democracy across the length and breadth of the country. The political parties have enabled the people of the country to participate in the democratic process.
Political parties require large financial resources to operate an extensive organizational structure, involve in continuous campaigns to market their ideologies, mobilize public opinion on issues of importance and more importantly contest in the elections held at different levels at different periods. In fact, the primary objective of any political party is to ascend the corridors of power and hence winning elections is of prime importance to them. The political parties are in a frenzy at the time of elections and they invest huge funds to compete in the elections. It has become a common phenomenon in India and the rest of the world that the power of money dominates the election process and many a time it becomes the decisive factor in the ultimate victory of a political party or a candidate in the elections.
