RAD has proven to be a worthy software strategy. However, this is not without risks and drawbacks. It requires the right mix of methodology, technology, people and process.

This is an era of fast decisions, fast movement, fast implementation and fast results. This wave has hit the IT industry as well. Faster adaptability to changes has now become the mantra for survival. Business drivers include customer preference, better service, accountability, utilization of resources, productivity, etc. In order to cope with business needs, client managers (stakeholders) are seeking IT systems that are developed and commissioned fast. However, the system should be of high quality, scalable and maintainable at a minimum cost. In order to sustain the cutthroat competition, consultants (solution providers) are taking up such challenges. However, on many occasions, these projects are not meeting the initial objectives even though various tools and methodologies are developed to facilitate Rapid Application Development (RAD).
