Individual behavior determines organizational profile and its DNA. And it is an organizational DNA that is woven deeply into the structure of an organization that together defines the organizational "persona". This article provides a conceptual overview of the organizational DNA diagnosis.

We often think of organizations as colossal entities. But they are not. They are collection of individuals who typically act in their own self-interest. Organization's performance and behavior are determined by actions of individuals within, aligned with each other and with the overall strategic interests of the organization. An organization's overall performance and growth is the summary of thousands of actions taken by its each employ at each and every level. At this juncture the question that arises is, why is it that some organizations can move up and down and merge and roll with the punches and consistently deliver on commitments where as others are not able to reach that level without tripping on their own shoelaces?

To answer this question, we have to look into the organization's DNA. It is a metaphor for the fundamental factors that together define an organization's "persona" which helps to explain its performance. I will be talking about "organizational DNA framework", a famous model of DNA assessment tool approach developed and conceptualized by Booz Allen Hamilton Consultancy. Here, an attempt has been made to codify the idiosyncratic characteristics of an organization.

Like the double standard DNA molecule is held together by bonds between base pairs of four nucleotides whose sequence spells out the exact instruction required to create a unique organism which is described as DNA of living organism, there are four building blocks of organizational DNA, which define the uniqueness and demeanor of an organization.
