| One of the main challenges faced by the nations all over
the world is to prepare themselves for the globalization
and information and communication revolution. Today, societies
and governments need to address the growing challenges of
Information Technology (IT) and prepare themselves for the
competition as a result of the emerging information economy.
With the help of IT, they can leap forward their policies,
principles, development strategies and programs. Policy
makers, planners, researchers and public were in a position
to take the advantages of Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT). Such need resulted in the emergence
of e-government or online government. E-Government is the process in which the government uses
IT to deliver appropriate services to its citizens, thereby
providing free movement of information and at the same time
eliminating the traditional paper work systems. In most
popular sense, it is the process of computerization of the
systems and procedures for allowing the citizens to communicate
with the government. E-Government aims to enhance integrity
and transparency in its working and benefits citizens with
effective governance. The long-term goal of e-government
is to develop long-term collaboration that efficiently and
swiftly delivers goods and services to citizens, businesses
and agencies. It can be used to maintain effective relationship
with the citizens, businesses and other government agencies.
There are four main relationships in e-government
                      Government-to-Citizen (G2C), Government-to-Business (G2B),
                      Government-to-Employee (G2E), and Government-to-Government
(G2G). E-Government is often confused with e-governance and it
is synonymously used for online government or Internet-based
government. Online or Internet-based government uses World
Wide Web (WWW), Internet and mobile technologies to interact
with citizens. The book focuses on the concept and provides
a comprehensive outlook on e-government. It offers insights
on the concept, strategies, implications, implementation
and practical examples about e-government. The articles
in the book are divided into three sections, namely, introduction,
implementation and future vision. Each of these sections
describe the importance of e-government. |
