Revenue management is a challenge in telecommunications industry. The external factors with ulterior motives and the intricacies of the internal systems are putting the service providers in a state of constant pressure in ensuring their revenues.

For a long period, the headlines in the business slots of both print and electronic media in India are slowly being dominated by Telecom-related news, pushing aside the conventional top liners from manufacturing, power, and Information Technology sectors. Headlines such as "BSNL loses 100 cr in the telecom scam," "Major telecom player pays penalty of 400 cr," "TRAI slashes ADC rates," "Cloning of SIM made easy," "Beware of SMS spoofing," etc., are almost regular news. The increase in teledensity (penetration of telephone lines per hundred), from 2.2 in 1998 to around 10 in 2005, is a clear indication of the telecom growth in India, which has opened up opportunities for grey market operators as well. In this emerging sector, a budding focus area, Revenue Assurance (RA), is slowly taking shape to integrate the end-to-end systems so as to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and completeness of the whole systems. Let's comprehend the relationship of the above with the changing focus on the importance of revenue and systems in telecom industry.
