The dawn of the new millennium and the fast pace of globalization have brought in a new dynamism to the workplace. `Working in teams', a concept with its origin in Japan in 1950s, gained a new momentum in the present-day multicultural business environment.Teams generate synergy among the members and achieve a superior performance, which is greater than the sum of their individual contributions.

But then the big question is, how do we make a new history? One of the most significant developments in the human resource management, in the recent past, has been the concept of `Working Together' or `Working in Teams'. One can draw inspiration from Henry Ford's lines "To come together is a beginning. To keep together is progress and to work together is success". Surely the success stories in companies like Xerox, Kodak, HP, GM etc are an ample proof of this concept. Teams have existed for hundreds of years and we can even say that the concept is as old as humanity itself: The first business usage, though, was reported to have been made in Japan in the middle of the twentieth century, later spread to America towards the end of the century and now it has become the only means of survival for most of the companies all over the world. Looking back to the period, before the onset of industries, our very own family or the joint family system was akin to work in teams, where every member performed the assigned role under the overall guidance and supervision of the head of the family. Even our scriptures advocated the concept of working in teams, be it the Ramayana or the Mahabharata.
