At one point or the other, we have procrastinated and still are. Even though today begins afresh, we realize that we still are with yesterday. We sometimes wonder why we have not completed something of utmost importance; we either have not realized the importance of the task or remain unaware of the fact that we have procrastinated. To understand and rectify procrastination, we have to approach the habit with a degree of sincerity, and work effectively either to overcome this habit or acquiring the mode of calculated procrastination. Time and again great writers have referred to it and Victor Kiam says "procrastination is opportunity's assassin". It is very true that since we let opportunities pass by, opportunities seldom knock on the door the second time. It is also the trepidation of victory or failure which is suicidal. This is a choice you need to make to save yourself from that failure. This paper states why do we procrastinate, how to overcome procrastination and some other insights into the habit.

This paper starts with the big question: Do we plan to utilize the limited amount of time we have to our greatest benefit?

We go about our daily activities in a frenzied manner without any sense of achievement. We need to ask ourselves whether we are concentrating and doing the right things to achieve the right results. We need to analyze our focus; we concentrate on being busy rather than achieving results. Can we work under intense pressure? Can we function effectively under any given circumstances?

For best answers to all these questions we need to exert smartness and learn to improve the way we utilize our time. At this juncture, there is an urgent need to take control of time and life but we are so disorganized that we always procrastinate.

Do you avoid doing a task that you need to accomplish? Do you see yourself postponing tasks until later? Later turns to tomorrow and tomorrow never comes. The task is extended to later and later and later…, until there is enough time to complete the task that is most pressing. This habit of putting off things for later or to a future time is called procrastination. It often leads to hopelessness, uncertainty, failure, and remorse. The only thing procrastination helps is not achieving your goals. When the goals are not achieved, both growth and career are at stake.
