Coastal agriculture is one of the major sources of livelihood after fishery in the coastal areas and has major economic potential for the coastal population. It is a growing challenge, that intense development pressure results in rapid growth and accelerates economic development in coastal areas. Intensive development also interferes with the processes of natural shorelines. Additional focused and sustained efforts are required through government programs, policy interventions and holistic action plans. One of the programs that the government proposed "the cash-for-work" in the lean periods should be linked with the maintenance and rejuvenation of shelter belts. This would provide employment to the youth and prevent the urban migration.
