The Staff Accountability in banks plays a vital role in day to day banking activities. In each and every deal/transaction, accountability is an important phenomenon. The examining of accountability should send the right signals to the employees and not vice versa.

In any organization accountability goes hand in glove with the responsibility of the person. The higher the responsibilities the more the accountability. Many a time the accountability factor deters the persons at all levels to take timely decisions. As a result of this many files are kept pending. Wheels of accountability some times delay implementation of decisions. Efforts are being made by top ranking executives to allay the fears in this regard but with no appreciable effect. However, there is a second group of persons who take decisions quickly and sometimes are held accountable, if the decisions go wrong later.

The surmise that one gets trapped in accountability often leads to incompetence and the same spreads vertically and laterally, thus crippling the entire organization. In banking sector the fear of accountability is more among all sections of employees since the dealings are entirely financial in nature. Any decision-making may bounce back with a tag of accountability, if the decision goes wrong and results in a financial loss to the bank. The concept of banking has undergone a tremendous change covering entire gamut of financial services and today banks are considered as financial supermalls with many services coming under one umbrella.
