India is predominantly dependent on the traditional pedagogic tool of lecture method to impart education. Though case study method and project-based learning are used in top B-schools in imparting management education at the Postgraduate (PG) level and of late in the PG classes of Commerce education, it is the lecture method which is still relied upon at the Undergraduate (UG) level which is of less use when it comes to building workplace competencies. Hence, the scope for using alternative pedagogies in general and at the UG level in particular, has been explored in this paper. This paper comprises of an introduction; the literature survey justifying the need for alternative pedagogies; few popular pedagogies used in other parts of the world both at the PG and UG level; the alternative pedagogies that have been used by the author at the UG level and concludes with an emphasis on the need for application of alternative pedagogies in business education.

The purpose of business education is to equip students with necessary skills that would help them face real business situations in their career. The future business leaders must be able to deliver across cultures with creativity and innovation. Unlike the past, today's organizations are not willing to spend more on training their new recruits and expect even the fresh graduates to discharge their duties efficiently from the very first day of joining. Critics complain that business schools concentrate on imparting more theoretical concepts and are less realistic about the practicalities of the business world, and hence, produce theoreticians who lag in inter-personal and communication skills. This necessitates the teaching faculty to be sensitive to these changes and apply corrections wherever necessary. India's business education providers in general and those teaching at the Undergraduate (UG) level in particular, rely on traditional lecture mode of teaching. But the literature survey made for this study reveals the fact that students are becoming impatient to listen to series of lectures on a given day and are prepared to undergo a different kind of learning process. Bearing this in mind, the present paper explores the other pedagogic tools that could be used effectively in addition to the lecture method at the UG level in particular. Some of the pedagogies have been used by the author in her college and the results of the same have also been discussed here. The paper comprises of an introduction; the literature survey justifying the need for alternative pedagogies; few popular pedagogic tools used in imparting business education in other parts of the world; the experience of the author in using few alternative pedagogies at the UG level and concludes with an emphasis on the need for application of alternative pedagogies in business education.
