One can never comprehend the world in its present shape and form without the presence of communication. Since the dawn of civilization, communication has played a pivotal role in strengthening human relationships. It also has been instrumental in furthering progress in the realms of science and technology. Since communication plays an integral part in human life, there is the need for knowing the `target group'. Unless the communicator studies and analyzes his target group, his communication is, in all likelihood, bound to be ineffective. As a matter of fact, a detailed survey at every sphere of life, makes one realize how essential it is to study the target group and estimate a profile to execute the task of communication, effectively. One can survey a whole range of cases, replete with examples, which show the truth of the above. It needs to be remembered that successful and effective communication is the only way to help fulfill the objective of getting good response and feedback.

There are certain terms that are crucial in the domain of communication. `Target group' refers to the community or a group of people at whom communication is aimed at. Much depends on the way this communication is imparted to the concerned group, so that the purpose is fulfilled. The target group may comprise separate entities based on geographical, demographical, national, religious, and linguistic divisions and classifications. Two groups may be totally different culturally and yet be targeted for a common communication. Again, a group may constitute individuals who may be identified on the basis of a common element that they share. In the same group, there may be individuals with different sets of values, having different educational backgrounds and opposing principles and ideas. It is of utmost importance to study the group and acquire a detailed profile of the target group. This is imperative for the communicator to be successful in his objective.

Communication plays an important role in organization effectiveness, and it is absolutely essential that we study the profile of the target group. Whatever be the purpose, the end purpose is fulfilled by communication. Hence, communication plays a pivotal role in strengthening the link between the sender and the receiver that ultimately paves the way for the desired response and feedback. This precisely explains the inter-twining relationship between the target group and communication.
