"Knowledge" is the key mantra for tomorrow's world. Education is slowly orienting not only towards wholesome knowledge, but also towards training in special skills, attitudes, culture, spirituality and much more. More and more companies spend their valuable time and money to train, to stay ahead; their methodology includes various active games, role plays, adventure and culture camps, spiritual camps and also training in yoga, meditation, relaxation and so on. Now the question is how far the schools, colleges and educational institutions can wake up to accept the fact that the world is changing and they have to play a vital role in shaping the future citizens of the world.
We see some perceptible change in curriculum, infrastructure, enrollment, assessment, etc., but further changes are vital in the field of training of teachers, students, and the school management, to keep in pace with the changes. Nowadays, the students want to develop an all-round way. They want to be on the top, in possessing a fine civic sense, understand their responsibilities towards their country, heritage and culture, apart from up-to-date knowledge in their field of study. All the above can be achieved only if the teachers are trained towards student-centric attitude, more steeped into interactive methodology that develops an effective teacher-student equation in the classroom, instead of the old methods of lecturing teachers and passive students. It may also be necessary for the authorities to follow-up, in order to see that both teachers and students religiously implement their knowledge. Both of them should realize that learning and obtaining fresh skills are lifelong processes and does not end with school or college. |
