In today's knowledge-based society, effective communication skills are essential for success.

Communication as a tool is important for our day-to-day dealings, be it at the college, at the corporate or in our personal life. It is a conscious study of the said processes and an understanding of what really comprises it. The importance of communication—be it verbal, written, spoken or emoted—has come to a lot of scrutiny in the recent years. Everyone understands that technical skills alone are of no use in today's world, if they are not communicated properly to the desired recipient/recipients. Different processes of communication are experimented with and tried out.

Communication is mostly projected through computers and telephony, in search engines through the world of websites. In reality, it can also be an interaction with a person in the next room. When two or more people come in contact with one another, the process of communication begins. Communication is a two-way traffic, in which information is transmitted from the sender to the receiver.

There are two kinds of communications— written and spoken. Communication is not limited to words. It shows the relation between two or more people. Communication which tells something about such relation is known as Meta-communication, a non-spoken form. Watzlavick, in his book Pragmatics of Human Communication, said, it is impossible not to communicate. Even though a person is not speaking anything, he can still convey something through his body language. It makes a big difference if the speaker is looking at the other person, close or far away. Even the absentmindedness, silence, or the forthcoming answer convey a message to the other person. Communication can take place consciously as well as subconsciously.
