Knowledge Management Officers in banks should be the link between the Human Capital Management Officers and Inventory (assets-loans and investments; deposits and other liabilities as well as other inventory i.e., technology and valuable information, market indices etc), Management Officers and Organizational goals.

The banking sector is the backbone of any country's economy. Anywhere in the world, the banking sector does play a crucial role in the process of development of any economy. So it is true about the Indian banking sector too.

The last few years have witnessed a rapid and metamorphosed transformation of the banking sector in India. The changes were too fast and too many. Cycle of boom, bust and readjustments at the macro level led to the revolution at the micro level. Banks were also affected in the process and have now realized that the old wisdom are no more viable to succeed in the new and competitive environment—a highly competitive environment, dwindling market share and shrinking profit margin. Liberalization in the banking sector in India (since 1991) has forced the commercial banks to be on their own. And the old generation commercial banks have been forced to compete with new generation private banks as well as foreign banks and they are now fighting the war of their survival. In an effort to recover their market share, increase profit and to not only satisfy but delight the ever increasing and ever changing demands of their consumers, the banks have been galvanized not only to introduce new blood in their manpower but also to introduce new and state-of-the-art process and technology.
