Today, attrition is one of the important issues in an organization. Employees' liking for an organization depends on several factors. In this paper, the author examines the relationship between the high attrition rate in the Indian Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) sector. The data is collected from several IT companies and analyzed using multivariate techniques. Principal component analysis has been performed to find the underlying dimensions for job attrition. Multiple regression is then used to examine the significant for the high rate of job switching among its employees. Based on this, the author has also segmented the people into three categories.

The shape of the Indian Information Technology (IT) industry has changed dramatically in the recent decade. The concept of the gold collared worker or the knowledge worker, as propounded by Peter Drucker in the early 1950s, has now come to be universally acceptable, more so in India.

When the Dotcom bubble burst in around 2000, no one would have imagined that the industry would rejuvenate itself so rapidly. The industry had few takers then, and the financial institutions and their creditors had turned their backs on them. In a remarkable turnaround, the industry has suddenly become one of the most sought after industries in India. Share prices of IT companies, which had plummeted during the slump, soared to over a hundred times for some companies.

Software and services exports continued to remain on top of the IT industry's revenue table. The export-driven software sector saw major long-term projects come to the Indian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) leaders. The Indian companies are bagging a larger share of the global outsourced business. The software export sector logged in revenue of Rs. 47,500 cr during 2002-03, a jump of around 30 percent, as compared to the previous year.
