The paper discusses the exports profile of film industry, trends in the animation and television software and rise of private channels in the Indian entertainment industry in the last two decades. The paper also summarizes various facts related to the changes in the entertainment industry.

The Government of India has opened up the entertainment sector and has accorded it an industry status. Hundred percent foreign direct investments are possible in almost all areas of this sector except in print media, and news channels where there is a restriction of 26% of FDI. This has resulted in an increased interest among large corporate houses to invest in this sector. Leading chambers of commerce such as the FICCI and CII have identified this sector as a fast-growing sector and have drawn up strategic plans to facilitate its growth and development. In addition, the Indian film, music and TV industry are actively attempting to strengthen and expand their overseas markets. All these are creating new opportunities for creative and business collaborations.

Entertainment has been one of the hottest growth sectors the world over. US's a great example and leader in this industry. Entertainment today makes up 5.4% of the US GDP1. Dominating this gargantuan, high growth rate business are a handful of leviathans with global reach, though they could be clubbed together under one company i.e., entertainment company .There is Time Warner which controls a channel (CNN) and a magazine (TIME), apart from running it's mainstream movie production and distribution business. Viacom owns paramount studios and MTV apart from sundry other businesses. Universal studios, Disney, News Corp and 20thcentury fox are also entertainment conglomerates.
