The
National University Singapore (NUS) Business School
got accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business (AACSB) International recently.
The school is the seventh B-school to get accreditation
from AACSB International in the Asia-Pacific region.
The elated dean of the school, Prof. Christopher Tang,
on April 17, 2003, said, "this prestigious accreditation
means that US Business School has met the highest standard
of achievement for business schools worldwide. Being
awarded this accreditation is an endorsement that our
school meets the international standards for business
education. It is the result of tremendous team work
and hard work".
Accreditation
is an act of granting credit or recognition, especially
to an educational institution or a school that meets
the required standards prescribed by the accrediting
body. Private, non-profit, recognized bodies that have
specialized in executing the accreditation process review
the operations of a school and award accreditation if
the school meets the standards prescribed by them.
Some
of the reputed B-school accrediting bodies are: The
AACSB International, The Association of Collegiate Business
Schools and Programs (ACBSP), The International Assembly
for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), The Association
of MBAs (AMBA), etc.
Today
B-schools require accreditation for various reasons.
First, to state that the school has a clear mission,
has clarity in meeting its objectives, maintains transparency
in executing its activities, and strives for quality
and continuous improvement of its programs.
