This article highlights the new trends in e-tutoring, its methods and outlines the roles and responsibilities of e-tutors. It also suggests a few measures to enhance tutoring skills to empower the students.

E-tutoring has become a global phenomenon, which can be termed as a descendant or a subset of e-learning or a technology-driven learning. E-learning is becoming a strategically important component of education and training in the new millennium. According to conservative estimates, the worldwide e-learning industry is worth over 38 bn (or about US$52 bn). In such a scenario IT-driven societies are keen on giving boost to e-learning.

E-learning by itself is very impersonal and non-engaging and the e-tutor adds that "human-face" to the online materials. Naturally, e-tutors assume significance and are essential in imparting e-learning. E-tutoring can be defined as a methodology in teaching, supporting, managing, and assessing students on their respective subjects using online technologies. The only difference from the conventional teaching to e-tutoring is the technology that plays a significant role.
