The paper evaluates the perceived level of job involvement among the university teachers working at the postgraduate departments in the Karnataka State. The sample consists of 152 teachers60 Lecturers, 47 Readers, and 45 Professorswhose average age ranged between 36 and 49 years. Job involvement scale (Lodahal and Kejner 1965) was administered. Analysis of the data indicated that around 60% of the university teachers perceived and reported to have moderately involved in the job (Mean 75.06 and SD 6.05). There is no significant difference in the levels of job involvement among the university teachers, irrespective of their cadre. All the teachers are perceived to have more or less the same level of job involvement. Job involvement of the university teachers is determined by three sets of variables, namely organizational, demographic, and career-related aspects.

Higher education in India is often blamed for low quality. The attitudes and values of various stakeholders are directly or indirectly associated with the quality of university educationteachers, students, administrative staff, and employees. In the university set up the teaching and non-teaching staff are two broad categories of human resources. It is widely acknowledged that the progress of an organization depends on the employees' attitude about and towards the organization in which they are working. Competent, committed, and involved teachers are the greatest assets for any educational institution. Similarly, teachers' growth is also determined by their attitudes, values, philosophy, believes and involvement. Teaching is a complex activity involving a range of skills, perceptions, attitudes, knowledge and sensitivity. The attitudes of the teaching community will largely determine the quality of teaching and research performance on the one hand and the commitment to the teaching profession on the other. Job attitude is the mental state of employees towards their job and its environment which also are evaluative statements either favorable or unfavorable, and either low or high. To improve the quality of higher education and bring about desired productive behavior in the workforce, the attitudes of the employees, more specifically teachers in the higher education, have to be improved.
