Holy Anger: A Soft Touch to the Hard World

Anger is among the strongest of all emotions but viewed negatively most of the time by most of the people. Like all other emotions, exhibiting anger is very important for people. To understand anger, approach to it, mode of expression and degree of anger are to be worked effectively as individuals and as part of groups and teams. Sometimes there are situations where anger is required and the managers these days are faking anger and anger management techniques to balance anger. Anger is also an important component of emotional intelligence. In the work place, proper handling of emotions and converting the negative emotions into positive emotions are required, and very essential to make people work to their potential. If anger is not channelized positively, it can trigger disasters for the system. Anger is definitely a hard emotion, but can be handled and given a soft flavor by emotional intelligence. This article examines anger management and conversion of this hard emotion into a soft form. The various ways to have a positive control on anger and then making it inductive and encouraging people at work, can help in successful functioning of the managers. It emphasizes the ways to get positively angry in a situation.

Bashed to doors, thrown from windows, road rage…computer rage…couples conflict and domestic violence….blowups with coworkers, supervisors, and children…bullying…school violence…child abuse…lack of civility…rampant litigation…terrorism and other hate crimes, and the list goes on. This might indeed be called the `Age of Problem Anger'. And with the growing stress, there is a definite need for curbing and managing anger within individuals.

Anger is a normal, healthy and fructifying human emotion. It varies in intensity, range and repercussions. Sometimes anger is mandatory for survival as it comes as an adaptive response to threats; it also works as an inspiration and can confirm its presence as a change agent.Problem anger is the great destroyer and it might disrupt the functionalities of the human mind. A seemingly uncontrollable fire, it destroys relationships, careers, health, and inner peace along with life. It saps the joy of living, saps happiness, leaves one feeling ashamed and foolish, and turns everyday challenges into explosive battlegrounds. These negative consequences of problem anger need not occur if an individual understands the management of anger and different approaches to it.
